Online Therapy in Idaho
Wherever you are in Idaho, quality trauma therapy is available — from the privacy and comfort of your own space.
Serving women in Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Sandpoint, Boise, Moscow, Idaho Falls, and throughout Idaho.
Therapy That Comes to You
Idaho is a big state. Quality, specialized therapy — the kind that goes beyond surface-level coping and actually works with the nervous system and the roots of what you are carrying — can be hard to find, especially outside of larger cities.
Online therapy changes that.
Whether you are in Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, Boise, Moscow, or a small town hours from the nearest trauma-informed therapist, you can access the same quality of care from wherever you have privacy and a reliable internet connection.
No commute. No childcare scramble. No sitting in a waiting room. Just you, your space, and the work.
Does Online Therapy Actually Work?
This is one of the most common questions I hear, and it is a fair one.
The short answer is yes. Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for the vast majority of people and presenting concerns. And in my own practice, I have found this to be true. This includes trauma processing work using EMDR and Brainspotting, both of which translate very well to a virtual format.
What makes therapy effective is not the room you are sitting in. It is the quality of the therapeutic relationship, the depth of the work, and the safety of the space. All of that is fully present online.
For many of the women I work with, online therapy actually feels more accessible. It is easier to show up for consistently, more private, and more comfortable than sitting in an unfamiliar office. Being in your own environment can make it easier to drop in and do the deeper work.
What Online Sessions Look Like
Online sessions at Mountain River Therapy are conducted via Zoom, a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform that is straightforward to use, even if you are not particularly tech-savvy.
Sessions are the same length and follow the same format as in-person sessions. The only difference is the screen between us, and most clients find that it fades quickly once the work begins.
A few things that help online sessions go smoothly:
A quiet private space where you feel comfortable speaking freely
A reliable internet connection
Headphones if you want extra privacy
A device with a camera. Laptop, tablet, or phone all work well.
If there is ever a technical glitch, we troubleshoot together and, if needed, switch to a phone call to keep the session moving. It is rarely an issue, but it is good to know there is always a backup.
Who Online Therapy Is For
Online therapy is a good fit if you:
Live outside of Sandpoint and prefer not to travel for sessions
Have a busy schedule and need the flexibility of attending from home or work
Are a mom or caregiver and find it difficult to arrange childcare for in-person appointments
Live in a rural area of Idaho with limited access to specialized trauma therapy
Simply feel more comfortable opening up from the privacy of your own space
If you are local to Sandpoint and prefer to meet in person, that option is also available. Some clients start online and transition to in-person over time, or alternate between the two depending on the week.
